Matt McLoone, Photographer, Euclid St., Washington DC

Matt is a friend, colleague and bottomless source of amusement. When he isn't goofing off, he is a very talented photographer. We had the good fortune of overlapping trips visiting our mutual friend Brett in DC. While mine was just a brief stint, Matt's trip was the tail end of an epic summer where he finished school, worked in Guatemala and various places in the US. If you haven't already seen his work, see it here.

Nicholas Jones, Book Sculptor for the Pratt Fine Art Center, Seattle, WA

More from Nicholas Jones at his Master Class at the Pratt Fine Art Center in Seattle. This was Jones' first trip over to teach in the states; his studio and showings are in Melbourne, Australia. It was really interesting to observe his class and the listen in on the lecture as his pieces almost demand a kind of justification for essentially destroying books to turn them into art. It is quite a phenomenon. He says in addition to looking for interesting looking books, he looks for a strong binding to ensure the piece can survive its transformation. His work can be viewed at bibliopath.org.

Cider Pressing, Camano Island, WA

The Combest-Friedman clan invited a small group of us up to their Camano Island farm to pick some apples and make some cider. Those of you that know me know that I absolutely love this kind of activity, so I was really pumped up. We picked, and took a tour of the property, ate some delicious burgers, then headed up to the neighbor's garage to make some cider. A big thank you to the Bob and Cheryl for having us out!

Book Sculptor Nicholas Jones, Pratt Fine Art Center, Seattle, WA

I really have a lot of respect for those that have a vision and need to create something new to achieve that vision. I always think back to a talk given by Sports Illustrated photographer Bill Frakes and his use of the strip camera to make compelling images. Nicholas Jones had to create his own medium to express his art, making these already interesting books into interesting sculptures. His work can be viewed here. More of this series to come later.

Eagles and Paul Neimi, Seattle, WA

Nothing too major today, just two frames that I like. Paul is kind of like an eagle in his own right. Its been a long week, and I have a huge post from the cider pressing on the back burner. It will be here soon. Have a good weekend, and go sounders!

Cider Pressing is a Team Effort, Camano Isand, WA

Three Colors of Pearl Jam, Key Arena, September 21, Seattle, WA

Back in September, Jamie and I cashed in a few gift cards from Jim and Gail to see Eddie and the guys play a show for us and 20,000 of our closest friends. Standard anti-photo rules forced me to bring the point and shoot. It was a blast!

Sounders Fans, Pregame, Seattle, WA

The sounders had their very first playoff game and I was lucky enough to be treated by a friend of mine. I showed up early to see the march to the match, a ritual that has grown with the team all season. There is a band that marches with folks and then these guys pictured below, which are kind of the hooligan sect and they do their own thing.
I wish I could have been to more games to see if this one was standard, however I kind of feel they stepped it up. Too bad the team couldn't deliver the W. Hopefully they pull it out on Sunday.
This first season has really plugged the void of not having an NBA team, although this winter may be unbearably long. Regardless, I am looking forward to next season!
